Where to buy polymer clay in malaysia?

Did I buy a bad batch of polymer clay?

  • I bought four packages of Sculpey III polymer clay, in white, black, light pink, and hot pink. The first three colors were soft and shape-able, like it's supposed to be. However, the hot pink one is completely unworkable, it only crumbles when I try to shape it. Even just trying to roll it into a ball dissolves it into a bunch of tiny crumbs. This is the first time I've ever used polymer clay so I'm very inexperienced with it, but I'm sure it's not supposed to do this. Is there any way I can make it workable? If not, is it possible to get a refund/exchange at hobby lobby for it?

I'd agree that if you can take it back do. But... I have worked old clay like that. As long as it was never over heated, (in which case it's shot.) If you can pick up a pinch full of crumbs and work them in your fingers until they are soft again, then it's savable. Its' a royal pain but it's savable. Some tricks to saving old clay like that. If you have a pasta machine (and if you don't, pick one up. They are by far your best tool.) I slice a brick into three or four thin sheets. Those will be JUST bigger than the widest setting on the machine. Enough to go through without being crumbled or compressed much. Run one, run another, sandwich the two and run those. Add the third.... Fold it in half and run it again. like that. Eventually, they will start to become pliable. (you might have to gather crumbs a few times.) Another way is to start out with a sheet of good clay that isn't crumbling. Add a slice of the old stuff, and work that until they are blended. (And yes, different brands all play nice together. Premo almost never gets hard like that. I've saved some old fimo white by mixing it with premo white.) See what I do here. http://artmakersworlds.artfire.com/

The pink clay is defective. It is either really, really old or it has been stored improperly near heat. If you have your reciept you should have no trouble returning or exchanging it.

I agree that your pink clay has been exposed to *too much heat and/or too much UV light during its total storage* and sitting time, and has partially cured. It can be reconstituted even at that point but is usually waaaay too much trouble to go to. So it's perfectly fine to take back since the partial curing is totally their fault. You can get either the same brand and color, or you can get a different color or brand, or just get a refund or perhaps a rain check. No problem. If you want to check out ways of "conditioning" even those fairly-hopeless polymer clays though, check out this page at my polymer clay "encyclopedia" site: http://glassattic.com/polymer/Conditioning.htm (in this case, just jump down directly to the category called *Old, Hard Clay*) But personally, I'd just take it back. In the future, always squeeze bars of polymer clay from the sides. They will be different softnesses depending on brand (and often the softest brands won't be the "best" polymer clay**), but if they're rock hard definitely, do NOT buy. ** http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ah3TmxMH1b9StHBwtkaivEIW53NG;_ylv=3?qid=20091225104704AAIDebT ...and maybe: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20110424084047AAskWyO You may also be interested in at least a few of my other answers here about using polymer clay: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AppnnlY9FO1A51fqSAXPZJEW53NG;_ylv=3?qid=20111202113346AAV0TqT http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20101204220616AAKtpvt And you might want to check out my whole polymer clay site for all the info, lessons, etc, there too.
