What's the best machine for development?

Whats the difference between a $30 sewing machine and a $100 sewing machine?

  • i never really owned a sewing machine before and i wanna buy one. i just wanna noe the difference, if the main thing is to sew some fabric

  • Answer:

If you had said a $70 machine and a $100 machine, I'd have said no difference (except that there are always some differences between brands and models even with the same features, mostly in handling). Many machines you *can* find at that price though will work fine for most sewing, just make a little more noise and not work as smoothly, etc. $30 machines however aren't worth much if you really want to sew. They're mostly the handheld things that barely work, don't do nice stitching, and often don't last. There are also some "mini" type stand-alone machines especially for kids that can range from $30-$60 or so, but most don't get good reviews. For just a little more, you can get an inexpensive "regular" sewing machine that will be much better. Look online and at places like Target, Walmart, etc, and especially look for sales. Stick with the "brand names" like Singer, Janome, Brother, etc., and also read reviews about each particular machine if you can--amazon.com's "Customer Reviews" for each model are one place to start or just Google the name and model of any machine you're considering along with the word REVIEW. As mentioned, sewing machine repair places may, or may not, have some machines for low cost that would suit you. As for understanding the differences between even low-cost models of regular sewing machines, check out at least my answers in these previous questions: sewing machines for beginners: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070101130648AAvr5ux (my long answer) differences between machines (electronic, etc.): http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100701074032AAgimi6 How hard is it to teach yourself to sew http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100607142131AA7DINW info for beginning sewers http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100121173318AAiaHCs info on sewing "all kinds of things" at Craftster.org forums/lessons http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ap1m_4expht5QAlFMDdDg1UW53NG;_ylv=3?qid=20100407221500AA1GZwK HTH, Diane B.

Sometimes is is just more bells and whistles. I don't recall seeing a new sewing machine for $30 unless it happened to be a mini or easy stitch. These types of "sewing" machines are for crafts and do not work well for much more than that. You can get a Singer 1507 at Meijer for less that $100 on coupon day and it is a great little machine. The machines that sell for closer to $100 at the big box stores (Meijer, Walmart, Costco) will decorative stitches. Sewing machine dealers may have used machines for less than $100. If you are a minor, you will need to take a parent or guardian with you when looking and making a purchase. In addition to choosing a quality sewing machine is to learn the machine - open the manual and lay it next to the machine as you read and apply each and every step of every feature of the machine. This does not take very long. Hands-on is the best teacher and will result in fewer, if any issues in how to properly use the machine for the best results. Good luck in finding a great machine and best wishes for many successful projects.

any machine under a $100 is probably just for scrapbooking and a little mending. Most of these machines do not last very long at all. Even a $100 won't get you much of a good machine at all. YOu should check out sewing machine dealers. see if they have some older used machines. You can demo them in the store and get a free lesson on how to use the machine you do buy

the price and the $100 sewing thing probably has more paterns.

talk with someone at a sewing shop for general information. I have 3 or 4 sewing machines right now (wow) that I got a thrift shop. a sears-kenmore freearm with all the attachments for $10. an antique White sewing machine in cabinet that on Ebay is $500 that I picked up for $1.29 one hr sale at a good will thrift shop. A Neechi and a kenmore that I rescued from the dumpster. I use the Neechi and got the book for it online. My neighbor past away and her kids emptied the apt and tossed all of her sewing and craft stuff in the dumpster. So I was glad that I was able to rescue her sewing machine. The kenmore I just rescued and am going to use the motor to repair the older motor in the 1928 antique White sewing machine. If you are in an area with a few thrift shops it is worth a drive around to check and see what was donated that some ones aunt once used. A basic simple sewing machine that has no bells and whistles, just straight and zig zag will be there for $25 or $35, check all the little drawers for attachments, the button hole attachment is nice to have, I see many older singer machines in the thrift shopps these days because so many are going to the fancy ones with computor and fancy pattern stuff. I have no use for them I learned to sew on my grandma's old treadle machine. Just the basic is the best way to learn how to sew and you can do many things with just that. Have fun shopping!! The thrift shops also have gently used patterns and left over fabrics for a good start.
