my daughters having a sleepover this weekend, they will be fabric painting tshirts, but i also brought them pillow cases too [flanelette and cotton], instead of painting the pillow cases i saw an idea on the net where you just write in FABRIC CRAYONS then you can use them without waiting for them to dry unfortunately in australia fabric crayons are very hard to find, i called up SPOTLIGHT and the lady said you can use regular crayola crayons, iron, and it wont wash out is this true? have you ever tried it or heard of it?,, thanks,, by the way i have no time to order fabric crayons as i need them in 2 days,, thank xxxxx

Here's one way you can do it -- you will need : Crayons T-shirt Sandpaper Iron Cardboard (sized to fit inside T-shirt) Aluminum Foil Using crayons, draw a picture on the rough side of the sandpaper. Make sure you press hard when drawing so there is a thick layer of crayon. I used a pretty rough grade of sandpaper which gave me the pebbled look. You can also use a fine grade for a more even transfer. *** Remember if you are writing words, write the word and letters backward so they will be correct after transfer. Cover your piece of cardboard with aluminum foil, being careful not to create creases in the foil. This will help color adhere to shirt. Next, insert the wrapped cardboard inside the t-shirt, to protect the back side of the shirt. Lay sandpaper with drawn design CRAYON SIDE DOWN on front of t-shirt where you want the picture to be. Heat iron to the warm or rayon setting. When ready, apply heat to the the back (the smooth side) of the sandpaper. Hold iron on each part of sandpaper for approximately 10 seconds to melt the crayon design onto t-shirt. It really does transfer that quick. Allow t-shirt to cool before peeling back sandpaper. To keep vibrancy of the color design, wash in cold water and hang to dry. hope this helps have fun all ;-)

Using paper towels, iron in the regular crayolas with as hot an iron as the fabric will tolerate. The paper towels are so that the crayons don't transfer to your ironing board cover or melt to the iron and smear. I have done this before I discovered the Fabric Crayons. They are a bit hard to find here also in the USA.

Crayola Crayons intentionally make it hard to write on fabric with. I have never been able to get a crayon to show up up on any fabric, but I guess if you pushed REALLY hard then you might be able to do it.

yea.. if you pressed really hard maybe. if you acutally broke up the crayon in really tiny pieces and melted it to the shirt.. idk..you can always try. but idk if you can do it without making a mess regardless if it works or not.

Crayola has a great website that should help. Take a look at this link. http://www.crayola.com/educators/techniques/meltedcrayon.cfm

when i did this i had them draw on parchment paper then put t-shirt on top with another piece of paper on the inside to keep it from bleeding through, and ironed with iron set to cotton, worked well for me. and last through washing and drying. good luck!
