Is It Possible To Make Money From Photography, When Taking It Up As A Hobby?

I know people who make money. They make greeting cards out of their photos and get local tourist shops to sell the cards. Also they hire themselves out for weddings and events, and also they do graduation photos or any kind of outdoor portraits. .
