Is one of the easter baskets more skimpy?

Can any one tell me the recipe for the sugar water that you use on crochet string easter baskets.?

  • You blow up a balloon, wrap colored crochet string around it that pour sugar water over it so that the string will become hard. After harden you pop the balloon and the string holds the shape

  • Answer:

It's easier to wet the string with the sugar water first, then wrap it and let it dry. But It is better to use a white glue mixture. Mix 1 part white craft glue with 1 part water in a large ziplock bag, add the string to saturate, (keep track of the end of the string) then as you pull the string out of the top of the bag, keep a firm grip on the bag while pulling the string through your thumb and forefinger so that the excess moisture is falling back into the bag. Does this make sense? Then use the wet string to wrap the balloon as usual.

Other answers

3 c sugar and 1 c water boiled together until clear makes a firm sugar starch. However, if you want something that won't attract insects or mice use equal parts of white glue and water instead, or a commercial fabric stiffener (which is quite permanent) from a craft store. It is generally found in the area with the glues.
