How do I use my old candles to make new ones?
-
Every time I throw away an old candle I wonder if I could use the leftover wax to make a new candle. There always seems to be so much leftover - and I hate to just waste it if I could make another one with it. I'm assuming the process is pretty straight forward, but I figured I'd ask and see if anyone else out there does this with their old wax and find out what their process is.

i think you could just break down the wax or cut it into smaller pieces. then you melt it by putting it into a metal bowl that is over a pot with water in it (on the stove). make sure the bowl isnt touching the water... take a mold of some sort where you want the candle or in the shape you want your candle and you can tape down the wick to the bottom and wrap it around a pecil or something at the top to keep it straight. then pour down the melted wax. let it cool off completely before you take it out.

if you want something creative, shred candles in different colors with a potato peeler or knife (something along the lines of that) and melt them in a glass jar. make sure the pieces are fairly large so you can still see the color clearly. you can buy wicks at craft stores to use. i'm not sure how to melt them, because its been a while since i've done it.

I did this...they have a kit at Michael's (or any craft store). The candle ended up burning sort of funky though & it was really messy....wasn't worth it. If the wax is scented, you could get one of those oil burners & put a chunk on top...the heat of the tealight will melt it & the scent will show.

My mother usually melts the wax, puts it into a long container and sets the string in her desired position and waits for it to set, et voila, a new candle. I think you can buy proper candle wicks for this kind of thing.

You could do as the first answerer said and melt in a pan, but what I do is put all the old candles i have in a pot pouri dish and heat it up. It makes the whole house smell great.

i second the first answer. just make sure it's not higher than medium heat. and stir it. i do it all the time. it's fun.

first simply melt the old candles in one beaker .take out the thread from it .now put them in candle like structure vessel that's it your new candels are ready to burn.

You could use a double boiler, melt the wax, and then put it in a mold with a wick. It's ridiculously easy.
