What are some good washable paints?

What types of paints are good for ceramics?

  • Hi all, I just bought a ceramic sculpture for my mom for her birthday and brought it home and realized that I don't have any paints. If I go up to the arts and craft store, what paints should I look for? Acrylic? I have no idea. What colors would be good for a baby angel and a sun with a face? Anybody know any websites that I can paints cheap on? Thanks.

Acrylic paints work best on ceramic. Quick tip: If your angel has a lot of detail, paint the entire ceramic a dark brown first, cover every bit of it. Then after it drys COMPLETELY, go back and dry brush the rest with the color of paint that you want. Dry brushing is where you apply on a small amount of paint onto your brush and and then blot some off onto a paper towel or even a sheet of paper. When you start to paint, use light strokes. It will seem as if you don't have enough paint on your brush at first but just keep painting this way until you have the desired effect. The small amount of paint on your brush and the light strokes keep the paint from reaching completely down into the grooves and will creat a more realistic effect. Also, the local craft store or even Wal-Mart have some good acrylic paints in little squeeze bottles that will work nice and there are pretty cheap.
