How to make polymer clay?

How to make polymer clay french maccaroon charms?

  • i know how to make the halves but i had to use elmers school glue mixed with polymer clay and while it made the creamy look i was looking for i dont know if i can bake it so i am not going to so here is the question: I want to make a charm out of it so should i go ahead and put the elmers glue whipped clay together then wait for them to dry then put into the oven or should i bake the halves and afterwards put the mixture in the halves and stick the pin in the sticky part and let air dry? Hope you can follow as i know it sounds a little confusing but i hope you can help

  • Answer:

Not sure I'm understanding, but whatever you do, the polymer clay *must* be cured (in the oven, with heat) to harden. Polymer clay will never "dry" because it's not a water-based (air-dry) material. Otherwise, you could put the parts together in either order but don't know if *thick* clay+glue will stay in shape (though probably will)...you'll just have to experiment with scrap clay to see. It is perfectly fine to bake permanent white glue *under* polymer clay though (not mixed into it). Clayers often paint objects like egg shells, wood boxes, some kinds of ballpoint pens, and many more things with permanent white glue (then let it dry a bit to tack up) to provide a somewhat tacky surface for the clay to stick to and/or seal porous surfaces like wood/paper/etc so the clay will stick... and in those situations the glue will actually act as a buffer for the object or material under the clay to prevent it from getting too hot (if that mattered). If you're interested in "covering" items with polymer clay btw, check out at least these pages at my site for all kinds of possibilties, and which ones might need the PVA glue: ...Covering ...Pens ...Eggs ...BOH (small glass bottles) ...Frames, Mirrors, Tiles http://glassattic.com/polymer/contents.htm As for putting eyepins or other connectors (danglers) into polymer clay before or after baking so they can hang as "charms" or pendants, etc, again there are many ways to do that.
