How can I make my letters in friendship bracelets not slanted?

  I've not made these bracelets but took a look a the pattern for you. Are you only doing right hand knots? The pattern clearly says to use left hand knots on the even rows for the blue knots and right hand knots using the base threads for the brown knots, odd rows are the opposite. Be careful how tight you pull the knots as well each must be done with the same tension.
