Does Anyone Know Famous Men That Knit?

Does anyone know how to knit intarsia?

  • I just learned how to knit about a month and a half ago and I feel comfortable enough to move on to more complicated things. I have been trying to learn to knit intarsia but I have yet to find a book that gives me an explanation I can fully comprehend. I took out "Not Another Teen Knitting Book" from the library but it doesn't go into depth about how to knit intarsia and most of the patterns in the book require an intarsia pattern.

Well, what is your question about it? If you want in-depth tutorials, you're better off googling it. Youtube has videos of just about every knitting technique, so they probably have one on intarsia too. But in short, it's not much different than changing colors in the normal way. Usually you change colors at the end of a row, but you could just as easily do it in the middle if you wanted to. Try doing that and see how it comes out; the only trick is to make sure that you pull the free end of the new color tight enough that it doesn't leave a hole. Now, the key to intarsia is when you switch back, after that first color change. It's called an intarsia twist - all you need to do is twist the two strands of yarn (your two different colors) over eachother once. This will ensure there is no hole between the two colors. After that, the only complications are using multiple colors - but the technique is still the same, you'd just do an intarsia twist every time you switch colors. But like I said, lookup some of those videos on youtube. Seeing it will probably make it a lot clearer. And pick a project that uses only two colors as your first one, so you can learn with something simpler. Alternatively, you could do those patterns without the intarsia, if you wanted. Just ignore the parts about color changing and work the whole thing in the single color.
