Digital Scrapbooking or Paper Scrapbooking?
-
Which do you prefer ? paper Scrapbooking requires alot more time (going to the store, buying the stuff etc.. ) I personally find digital scrapbooking alot more time efficient, especially with my newborn. I was wondering if there was any nice creative way we can print the pages and put them in a binder, plastic pages and decorate the binder cover? Any ideas ? I dont want to spend too much money creating a scrapbook.. and all the scrapbook stores a re so far away from my house.. And im not into online shopping for that.. Any ideas? thanks!!

Hi The popularity of digital scrapbooking is growing steadily. In fact, many of the traditional scrapbooking magazines have released special issues featuring the making of scrapbooks with computers. Some hobbyists have introduced themselves into the digital art by just making parts of their scrapbooks on computers and then printing them out to attach to their normal albums. However, others have ventured into hardcore scrapbooking, i.e. making scrapbooks entirely on the computer, as it saves time and materials, plus it provides many more capabilities not available with traditional methods. Many digital scrapbookers are photographers who use digital cameras and have their pictures stored in their computers. The beauty of their work would go to waste if they are just stored there in folders, so they came up with interesting ways to showcase their photos. Not only are digital scrapbooks quick to make, they can also easily be distributed and used as portfolios. Otherwise they can be quickly shared to just about anyone who has a computer. Digital scrapbooking is quite simple. There are few things needed to make digital scrapbooks. First of all, you need a computer with a decent graphics card. Next, you need digital imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop. Such software is not only designed to edit pictures but also to make layouts such as scrapbooks. Obviously, you need photos. You may also use scrapbook templates such as Simply Digital, which helps beginners with design ideas. For those who want to print their work, a good quality photo printer and photo paper is needed. With these materials, digital scrapbooking can be easy. Like traditional scrapbook making methods, it basically involves designing backgrounds, adding pictures, inserting accent designs, adding texts and titles, and so on. The good thing about digital scrapbooking is everything can be easily edited and mistakes can be easily removed. With digital scrapbooking, you can be nostalgic without being passé. Memories can be easily preserved and cherished with digital scrapbooking. Hope that helps. Take care Paul

I saw on a scrapbook show a lot of people love digital for the same reasons you say. You can print them up and album them and another good thing about this is you can add some embellishments without spending a lot of time. You should still use archival safe paper so it will last to pass down for generations. I think Epson has some good stuff too.

I have found digital scrapbooking refreshing with the new Creative Memories digital StoryBooks. they have one-of-a-kind layouts, over 400 different templates that you can mix and match through the whole book and I think the best part is that once you're done, you order it and they print it with all their fancy technology, they bind it (not glue it) and then send you the finished product within a week. I haven't found any other products to be done as professionally. And the software you use to make them is a free download, so you're working on your own computer with your own fonts on your own time - not tied to your internet connection.

I like to do both. I like the ease of digital scrapbooking, but I also like to get "crafty" with the paper still. There are a lot of scrapbook companies online. I actually signed up to sell scrapbooking supplies with one of them simply because they have VERY low costs & I get a great discount. I haven't actually sold anything, just bought what I needed! *grin* I've listed some links for software that you can get for a great deal also, it may not be the very latest version, but it's not old either.

well i prefer paper scrapbooking, because i can be more creative with it, and for me i dont mind the time it requires cause its nice to go into a little world where you can be as crative as you want, but thats my opinion! and if you have a newborn then i understand. and other than making the page and pressing print im not sure their is really a way to make it that crative for digital scrapbooking, but you might consider making the pages with the pictures and whatever else you want and them go to a scrapbooking store and pick out some extra stuff to jazz the page up...like those stickers that stick off the page. and a lot of times places like Hobby Lobby that marks down their some scrapbook stuff ever once and a while.

Hi, happy scrapping, which ever we you do it!! I'm an avid regular scrapbooker, but occasionally look at different websites. Yesterday, I was looking at Martha Stewart's website, www.marthastewart.com and under Crafts, subtitle, "paper," was the instructions for a home made scrapbook cover. It didn't require much work, nor many things to make it. You might just want to check out her website, and see if you like her idea, or maybe her original idea will spark an idea of your own! That way, your entire scrapbook would be totally original, and all your own!! Good luck, and keep on scrapping!! Li'l Suzy

Hi, Actually, you can combine both! It's called hybrid scrapbooking, so you can do all the bones of you page, background, photos, journaling on the computer and then print it out (usually a photo place like Walmart or Walgreens will be the best deal on printing out pages vs. buying an expensive 12x12 printer for home). Print that out then add the traditional scrapbooking elements to that. Also, you can do all the pages online as complete digi pages then have a place like Walmart put it together in a coffee table book. I like both myself, I'm just starting to get into the digi stuff, I do want to do more hybrids and I'm going to try the coffee book idea too. Happy Crafting! printing it out is going to cost you in printer ink, print the size of your printer paper, go to a dollar store and get a white notebook with a clear front and the clear page protectors, stick a good picture in the front of the notebook, then fill up the pages inside. walmart sells great scrapbooking stuff if you have the nerve to try the real thing.

I do both, papercraft and digi. They each have their advantages. What are you doing right now with the layouts that you've already created digitally? The creativity is pretty much in the page and you can simply use a normal scrapbook to insert your layouts. I can tell you're not into online shopping if you think that only papercraft products take time to buy. There are sooooo many online places to buy digi products and lots are free too.
