Is cheap clay okay to use?

Solvent free glue okay to use on polymer clay?

  • i have some 'Pritt' solvent-free craft glue, dries clear, is this okay to give a glossy finish to my polymer clay models? :)

  • Answer:

Pritt is a company that makes all kinds of adhesives, including glues, so it's hard to know which one you have. I presume if it says "craft glue" that it's a permanent white glue and water-based but can't be sure. Permanent white glues (usually diluted) won't be unsafe to use on polymer clay (they're water-based), and they will give a gloss finish (like decoupage mediums, etc) but none of the white-glues will give very tough surface. They'll be fairly easily scratchable and susceptible to cloudiness created by humidity later. The toughest clear gloss finish for polymer clay is a water-based, clear, gloss polyurethane or acrylic fingernail polish. Acrylic floor polishes like Pledge with Future Shine are also fine but thinner. You can read a little more about the finishes that work and don't work on polymer clay, etc., in my answer to this previous question: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100206154939AAb5lxe ..but for much more detail, check out the "Finishes" page at my polymer clay "encyclopedia" site: http://glassattic.com/polymer/finishes.htm HTH, Diane B.
