Where do I buy dry ice?

The ability to purchase dry ice is VERY dependent on where you live. In northwest Iowa when I was in college(like 6 years ago) our chemistry professor had to order dry ice a week in advance from some company in town and that was the only place where you could get it. I also think he had to prove who he was and why he was ordering it. In Pittsburg, Kansas (southeast Kansas, 30 min from Joplin, Missouri) you can by dry ice at the Dillons(grocery store) for about $1 a pound. I've purchased it as recently as this January to put in my cooler. I'm currently in College Station, Texas (90min north of Houston) and as I work in the Chemistry building can get dry ice from the stockroom but you can't walk in off the street and buy it. Part of the reason dry ice is so hard to find some places is that it is very easy to give yourself a cold burn if you don't know what it is and pick it up. Dry ice sublimes into carbon dioxide at a lower temperature than water melts. Also, since it is pure carbon dioxide, you shouldn't breath in close to the dry ice and there may not be enough oxygen in the area and if you do it long enough its bad.

me and my friends buy dry ice all the time and just experiment with it...its so much fun ok to answer yopur question, you have to be over 18 and show license and we get it from a container at albertsons, it usually goes for around $1.50 lbs. but remember to always use gloves when handling it and make sure you are in a room with ventilation (open your windows)

Find dry water and freeze you own much cheaper

Call your local catering company and ask who they recommend.

No you have to go to a party supply store. Look in the phone book under party supplies then start making phone calls. I used to get that stuff all the time for parties.
