How to find out whether a shape has touched another shape?

How do I find a sewing machine that stitches and cuts (seger?) given a pre-programmed shape?

  • Here is an example of what I want to do. I want to cut multiple layers of fabric (about 4) in a 18.5 in. x 3.5 in. rectangle and join them together with spray adhesive. Then I want to feed the result into a sewing machine. The sewing machine needs to cut the layers of fabric to a certain shape/form and then Double Overedge stitch the edges (joining all layers). The shape/form could be anything but for example think of it like the letter D and slightly smaller than the rectangle of fabric. Is there a machine that can be programmed to do this? (repeatedly, feed the next rectangle, done, next rectangle, done, etc.)

  • Answer:

Probably, but you're looking at many thousand dollars worth of equipment. The folks you want to talk to are the manufacturers of industrial sewing equipment and sewing robots. I'd suggest starting with Merrow and Juki, as they're well established in sergers.

I have not seen one that would do that on the commercial market, it would have to be a professional machine. I am sure there is one, but have no idea who might make it. You might google Professional Sergers and see what comes up. adding: a lady told me the other day that Janome does specialty things on their machines. Google this company and see if they would make you a machine that does this. the quote from the company "We make machines to suit people".
