Best metal detector for beginners?
-
I got a metal detector for my young nephew last year, just a cheap $40 "Bounty Hunter Jr", and we went out and I thought it was kind of fun. I tried it really quick for an hour or so so I could show him a little about it. He was finding sinkers for fishing and stuff most people would consider junk, but he loves to fish and was keeping the useable sinkers, for example. So it was a good time. So I have been thinking on getting one myself. Just looking for recommendations on one, let's say for now I would go maybe in the $100-150 price range. The one I bought him had no headphone jack if I remember correctly, and am wondering when starting out if I want or need headphones. Is that just to pick up on faint sounds from the unit? Is that how you find the deeper stuff which is more apt to be silver?
