Can someone identify this patch?

Can someone help me Identify which model my old sewing machine is?

  • So I have this old sewing machine, and I'm not sure which brand name it is, or which model. I'm hoping someone from here can help me identify it, or point me in the right direction. It belonged to my fathers grandmother, and I know of singer sewing machines, but the website holds no information, it has no serial numbers or model numbers to identify it properly. All I have a pictures. And no, I cannot just take this machine to some antique shop or whatever to have a look at it, because I live in a small rural town no where near places like that. Here are a few pictures of the machine if anyone wanted to have a look. They aren't the greatest quality, as I took them with my Ipod. It does say Quebec on each side, and also somewhere else on it has the letters B&A Q 1. Complete overlook of the machine http://i44.tinypic.com/2e6bj7q.jpg 2. The machine itself. http://i41.tinypic.com/11wamok.jpg And some few close ups of other parts of the machines base. http://i40.tinypic.com/8wwson.jpg http://i40.tinypic.com/5yumvc.jpg

  • Answer:

I can't help much, because the machine is of a vintage I don't know much about... but I can tell you where I'd start asking questions first -- the folks at ISMACs, the ones at the yahoo group "wefixit" and the folks at "treadleon". That style of cabinet, with the box on top, is referred to as a "coffin top". http://www.ismacs.net/digest.html http://groups.yahoo.com/group/wefixit/ http://www.treadleon.net/ I can tell you that that style of cabinet was pretty much 19th century.

Your last pic has a clue!! Ok, this machine was made in Quebec, and I think somewhere before WW2. Possibly before WW1 even. Research if there was a machine maker in Quebec around the turn of the century! That would be in the history of the city! Ok, Yahoo!Groups has a large number of sites for antique sewing machines. I do not have those sites bookmarked on this computer so cannot tell you the most likely ones to go to. I do know there is one dedicated to the repair and feeding of these lovely machines - the treadles!!
