How do I make a magnetic locket?

Help!! I really want to know how to make a locket!?

I want to make a locket for my mom for Christmas. I want to do this on my own, like carving it out of wood. Is there a way it could open without a hinge? I also heard of making one out of coins. do you heat them up or something? How might I make one with houshold items, perferably not shells. If you could please give me step by step instructions, or a website that WILL help!!!!
