What items should I sell?

Professional crafters, what kind of items do you sell?

• I am just wondering about what kinds of items you sell and what items sell most successfully. Also, what methods do you use to sell your work? Like do you own a shop, sell from your house, or invest in using a site like etsy? How can one be successful with crafting as a full time job?

  I sell baby items, like burp rags, onesies, soft toys, bibs, etc. My niche is the fabrics I use; I use amazing designer fabrics that you won't find in a box store. I sell a ton to the ladies at work, there is always someone pregnant and I get asked to make baby baskets a lot, or they purchase for their friend's showers. In a few weeks I will get my items in a local consignment craft shop. I am very lucky with that. The owner takes care of everything and makes a small commission, so I just adjust my prices for her shop. The shop gets amazing traffic so I am very excited for that venture. The problem is that I work full time, have 2 kids, and am pregnant, so finding time is hard. I have to be diligent and quick, and squeeze in any bit of sewing when I can. I haven't started an etsy shop, I have thought about it, but I want to see how this local shop pans out first. I can barely find the time for the items for that shop, so not sure if I will bother with etsy, especially when there is so much competition there. Maybe you can consider a consignment craft fair in your own house. I was a part of one of those before. A few times a year a woman would hold a craft fair in her own home. She took care of everything, I just dropped off my items and picked up my check at the end. You could advertise on Craigslist looking for crafters for a consignment shop. If you are willing to do the work, you could make it work. Ladies love those exclusive shows. Good luck!
