If I let my plastic mold float in warm water, will it make my resin charms easier to release?
-
I posted a question concerning resin earlier, and I said how the craft store I was at didn't sell molds specifically for resin, and how I ended up having to settle for a plastic candy mold. When I tried to take my finished charms out of the molds, they won't budge and they are stuck. I'm trying to look for a way to take them out, because I used up almost a whole bottle of resin and I don't want to waste them by throwing it away. So my question is, if I let my plastic molds float in a tub of warm water for a while, will it loosen the plastic grip on the charms and make it easier to take out?

Answer:
I don't think that will work but sometimes people using resin will cool their resin-in-molds in the freezer a while which makes them easier to release. However. . . using *regular-plastic* molds often means that you'll have to rip the plastic off the resin rather than being able to do anything at this point to make the resin release (resin is quite adhesive, if you didn't know). Certain kinds of plastic will release resin casts pretty easily (translucent flexible ones like Tupperware/Rubbermain containers, etc) and silicone molds will be fine too, but you'll need to use a "mold release" if you expect resins to come out of other materials.
