Which do you think is easier, knitting or crocheting?
-
I signed up for a kitting/crocheting class and need to choose one or the other. Which do you think would be easier to learn? I have tried crocheting before and get the basic idea. I have never finished a project though! I was thinking I may do better at knitting as it would be brand new. Any suggestions?

Answer:
Since you have the basic idea of crochet, I'd suggest knitting. You can get the basic idea for that craft. Then, you can choose which type of work is best for the project your working on. That's what I do. I've been crocheting for about 30 years and knitting for about 6. I do whichever suits the project best now and that way I actually finish more projects. Startitis is a very common and far too fatal disease for crafters. Join the revolution and get innoculated with the finisheritis vaccine. It's free and available in your works-in-progress basket.

I have always thought knitting was easier. I can knit like a pro, but everything I crochet is not in proportion. Besides, I think knitting is more versatile and has nicer stitches.

Crocheting will give you instant gratification. It really is faster AND if you mess up, a whole lot easier to fix. In some cases knitting is a better choice for clothing--although there are books out now that teach you to crochet in ways that look like they were knitted. Crocheting will use more yarn, which in turn will give you heavier, warmer clothes and afghans. Knitting is best for lighter weight clothing. Crocheting projects are easier to tote around. Knitting takes a whole lot longer to finish a project. Also, most people who try knitting first have a harder time learning to crochet, but in reverse is not true (again, in general). My MIL can crochet in the dark, but she can't knit in the dark. Either way, you have to practice practice to get proficient. Knitting "being new" isn't really a good reason to choose it. They are both worth learning, if you ask me. Good luck! EDIT: J-Cragen, that is hilarious--I love it! Just say YES to Finishitis!
