How do i hook up the double bass pedle with my orginal rock band drum kit?

i just got guitar hero metallica and i am useing the orignal rock band drum kit but i play on expert+ so i need the double bass pedle which i have a pedle that should work but when i plug it in it dosent work i u have to press down both pedles for 1 bass hit and i am very confused
