Can you become a PHYSICIAN while you're a Physician Assistant?

Should I go for PA (physician assistant) or become an actual DOCTOR?

  • I was thinking of going with my plan to apply to PA programs after I finish college, but is it worth it? I mean, a physician assistant is EXACTLY like a doctor except you don't have your M.D. and its basically like you're the doctor's little "puppet" and you get bossed around, you can't open up your own practice (NOT THAT I WANT TO, I DON'T), and you just don't have the certificate. Actually being called a doctor sounds more impressive, but I just dont want to spend loads of money on medical school and do 8 years and then residency....and you don't become a doctor until you're like 30 or 31 which is too late imo. Physician assistant, you can become when you're like 26 or 27. PLEASE ANY ADVICE FROM MEDICAL PEOPLE or anyone w/ experience! thanks :)

Becoming a doctor is an arduous task. To become a physician, during undergraduate education you should have been taking medical school prerequisites and becoming active in medical volunteering and research. Also, the MCAT is a large factor. Becoming a PA is relatively easier and requires much lower scores, and less preparation. If you have not decided to become a doctor going into college, then becoming a PA may be your only option if you are too far into your undergraduate education to complete the prerequisites and MCAT for medical school.
