What is preventive medicine?

What are your opinions on integrated medicine?

  • I'm currently doing my dissertation on attitudes towards integrative medicine. I'm therefore trying to find out what the general opinion is on integrative medicine to allow me to build up opinions and ideas. Integrated medicine is conventional medicine combined with complementary medicine.

These were supposed to help the prescription medicine work better and deal with any side effects. There was an outcry from doctors, the science community and skeptic groups. The company was pressured to provide evidence to show these products actually worked as claimed and were safe. Bad idea. One has been demonstrated to work, most alt.med has been shown not to work. How can you realistically practice the two side by side?

I think it's a sham academic program for colleges to sell to people who won't be able to get jobs when they are done - go ahead - ask to speak to some of their graduates.

I think it is just a sales gimmick. They started to call it alternative medicine back when they could persuade people to use it instead of conventional medicine (Lets forget for a moment that some of them still can/do). Then (to boost sales?) they started to call it complementary medicine - saying that it could be used along side conventional treatment. Now they are calling it integrative medicine suggesting that it is an important part of the treatment. But the bottom line is, that the non-conventional part fails under unbiased test-conditions, which is more than enough reason to not to use it.
