Do binaural beats actually work?

How can I get Binaural Beats to work?

  • I've been trying to use binaural beats to induce lucid dreaming and also want it to make meditation easier and use it for imparting subliminal messages of my making on my subconscious. But, I'm doing one thing at a time and so far I haven't been able to get it to work for lucid dreaming. Here are the frequencies uses as I've been told. • Gamma (38-90 Hz) Highest form of lucid dreaming, heightened self awareness and insights. • Beta (12-38 Hz) Waking consciousness, alert, analytical and focused. • Alpha (8-12 Hz) Relaxation, creativity, whole brain functioning, calm. • Theta (4-8 Hz) Dreaming, lucid dreaming, deep relaxation, meditation, creative inspiration. • Delta (0.5-4 Hz) Deep sleep, unconscious mind, low blood pressure. I've used a program called adobe audition where I will generate two tones of different frequencies and play one in each ear to make the binaural frequency. I also listen with stereo headphones. I start at 15hz giving 2 minutes for my mind to tune in. Then I take 13 minutes to go down to 3 Hz with 2 breaks for my brain to catch up. Then I stay at 3 Hz for 15 minutes before taking 4 minutes to go up to 7 Hz, the frequency where I'm hoping lucid dreaming can occur. I then stay there for 40 minutes before having it gradually cut out over 2 minutes. I stopped trying with gamma frequencies hoping to get theta frequencies working first. So far it hasn't worked at all. I'm not even driven asleep and I'm not woken up when the track repeats itself starting at a waking frequency. Does anyone have any ideas on getting this working?

  • Answer:

You have to be in a dissociative state when you try for this. Try to blank your mind of all thoughts.

Has anyone proven in a double blind study that these sleep states can be achieved this way? If so, then look up their study, examine the details and try to duplicate them. If not, then it is only a hypothesis, not even a theory because a theory must have supporting evidence.

I would suggest that the idea that sound frequencies can regulate brain function is pretty flawed. If you were really looking for something that might have a positive effect in that way then best thing would be to buy a ticket to a Beethoven symphony or a performance of Mozart. Those are the people who really understand how sound effects people. I'm being serious. You get out of a good performance that you really pay attention to and it balances you out and lifts you up for days. Lucid dreaming you can do without anything like that. I've done it a lot of times, it's just a matter of willpower..... but I don't like it and I don't do it any more. It feels like there's something going wrong when I do it and that somehow it's damaging me- it's hard to explain, like I'm drawing attention to myself from something dangerous. Anyway, if you manage to do it you'll see what i mean. But IMO it's really a silly trick that doesn't lead to anything. For meditation it's definitely not necessary, in fact I would suggest it might be deleterious. I use Sahaja Yoga methods to get into deep meditation which you can just do yourself without any external stuff. http://www.freemeditation.com/ shows you the methods and knowledge necessary to achieve that. And subliminal audio messages? I think if you research that it's pretty much been debunked.. IDK that's what I've seen anyway.

You can't. Because it's a scam.
