Do we need a daily multivitamin supplement?

Please help-need advice on best vegetable supplement?

  • My husband does not eat as many fruits and veggies as he should (for that matter I probably don't either) and while he has been taking a multivitamin it is only because I pester him to (lol) as he has read there is not much benefit to the multis, and that some could actually cause ill effects long term. He feels he would like to stop the multivitamin and instead take a vegetable or veggie/fruit supplement of some kind. I can see the benefit of this, if the supplement has antioxidants in it and is safe/highly rated, but am having trouble figuring out what to order. I am leery of getting a brand I am not familiar with, but so far I can only find one brand I have heard of, which is this one, made by Centrum: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0050MM1BY Anybody have opinions on what brand (affordability IS a consideration) and whether discontinuing the multivitamin sounds okay? Thanks!

  • Answer:

Is there something wrong with just eating fruits and vegetables everyday? It's cheaper in the long run and you get a lot more out of them than you do from supplements. It's easy if you just add some to each meal or snack. If you like cereal for breakfast, just add some berries or sliced banana. If you have a sandwich for lunch, add lettuce and tomato or have a small salad on the side. Apples and other fruit make great snacks. Supplements should only really be used with a doctor's recommendation
