How does acupuncture work as an analgesic?

Has anyone had acupuncture done? did it work for you?

  • hi, im currently doing a presentation for nursing on acupuncture, and i would like some info on whether or not it works, and how many people have had the treatment. if anyone could answer the question i would be very greatfull. have you had or do you know anyone who has had the treatment done, and did it work for you/them? did you go back for another treatment? will you ever go back again. thanks.

    Hi - I am learned in Traditional Chinese Medicine and have used both acupuncture and Chinese herbology for many years for all sorts of ailments. I have both recieved it from others and used it on myself and I can tell you that I would turn to "TCM" for help with an illness before I would ever consider using the pharmaceutical model of western medicine as a last resort. My experience has proven time and again that Oriental Medicine definately does work,... and in many cases is far superior to western medicine,.. yet in a very humble way. .. I have to say however that Oriental Medicine is a form of "natural medicine",.. and as such it works with your bodies own innate intelligence to gently assist the body in finding balance within itself. ........ This is very different from the western pharmaceutical model which is all about "forcing" the body to behave the way one might insist it should behave. .... This of course is done by way of very strong and synthetic toxic chemicals that in truth assualt the symptoms of a persons illness,.. rather than naturally assisting the body in finding it's own equilibrium. ... This is why so many pharmaceutical's cause one to experience numerous "side effects" as a result of taking them,... and then of course the patient ends up being prescribed more medications to allay the side effects of the previous medications. .. The typical long term effect is that the patient is sentanced to a lifetime of being enslaved to having to take the prescribed drugs to allay their symptoms,... and all along the imbalance behind the cause of the original illness is never addressed. Oriental Medicine is a healing art that is based upon thousands of years of wisdom that has brought about a very profound understanding of the forces that govern not only the human body/mind,.. but nature itself. ..... It definately does work,.. but it does not work in all cases or all situations. .. There are cases for example where a problem may be a result of a need for structural repair in the body or other form of stuctural problem which will not allow the likes of Oriental Medicine to have any benefit. The main areas where Western Medicine is king,.. is in the areas of structural repair and emergency medicine. ... If and when western and eastern medicine are harmoniously combined,.. that is when you have a truly progressive medical model.

I lost vision in one eye, suddenly. After some Cats scans and an MRI, no reason was found so a genaric term was used, optical neuropothy. They couldnt tel me if or when the vision would get worse,spred, get better, or anything of value. So i saw a woman I knew who had a Masters in Chinese medicine. She did a few pin cusion treatements and I must say that my vision returned after the second treatment. It has also helped with severe back pain as well.

Yes it's helped me. It helps me relax and I sleep better at night. I also take the herbal tea. Chinese medicine is very old, hundreds of years. If you have ever been to a Chinese doctor you will see why modern doctors make fun of them. They check the color of your tongue and feel the 3 pulses on your wrist to see what's wrong with you. Just think a hundred years ago a doctor didn't have a machine to do a blood test or an x-ray. They developed other ways to see the problem.

I had acupunture for my shoulder following surgery, 2 years later was still painful so asked for acupunture, after only 4 sessions i had no pain in my shoulder , which has obviously improved my life as before i was taking alot of medication for the pain, there are 2 types of acupunture the chinese and the weatern. I would definetly have acupunture again.

Yes it really works. I had a really sore shoulder which didnt get better with physiotherapy but the acupuncture really sorted it out

I had it for back pain and it worked OK the first time and after that each visit the relief became less. The operator said that in my sort of injury that frequently happened. I have nerve damage.
