What does it take to be a pharmacy technician?

What steps would i need to take to be a pharmacy technician?

  • In new mexico, what education would you need to be a pharmacy technician? What certifications would you need approved and where would i go to get these certifications?

  • Answer:

Hi Jenny, here is the information on New Mexico state requirements: New Mexico State Requirements - Board of Pharmacy Technician Guidelines states the following requirements for becoming a pharmacy technician: -Complete New Mexico Pharmacy Technician Registration Application, pay $30 fee -Within one year of registering as a tech, you must become nationally certified by either PTCB or ExCPT and maintain that certification as long as you are working as a pharmacy tech -Within one year of registering, 220 hours of on the job training OR board approved training and education is required, complete New Mexico Board of Pharmacy Technician Training Record This comes from http://www.pharmacytechnicianhq.com/ (it is a free site). The information on the site is hyperlinked. So, get your registration and try and find a job. If you have trouble, then consider an online program that is low cost and will get you some education. As you get close to completing your program, try and volunteer somewhere to get your 220 hours (this is basically a long-term interview). This is discussed on the site in detail and in podcasts you can listen to. Get a good book to study the PTCB on and obtain that in the next year as required. Best of luck,
