Is a younger persons immune system stronger than a somewhat older persons?
-
Like if you're 16, is your immune system stronger than that of a 46 year old. I ask this because both me and my mom literally started getting sick the same day but her symptoms were worse and I got over mine a lot quicker.

Answer:
this is not difficult to answer.. I'm Older as they say (yeah it sucks) and when I work on computers full of dust the germs make my throat soar hurt at my current age WHEN I WAS YOUNGER this never happened.... NEVER not once.. did the dust bother me or make me sick in any way and my skin was tougher to.. now it buses and cuts easily :( so yes.. its not as good when your older :( it goes down hill just like everything else.. so.. if you want to recover from being sick fast like most older fokes cling to coconut oil once they find out about it as it has over 160+ health benefits I know I lost 20 medical problems to it! its no puff of smoke it works! but when your sick its anti-viral anti-bacteria anti-fungal and a hole lot more! so i tend to recover id say 900% faster? when sick? think about it mono virus gone in 2 weeks not 6 months flu gone in 12 hours not 2 weeks i mean you tell me? what is that 200% faster recover time? 500%? I never was the best at math.. and dads a engineer! (go figure)

Yes. Immunological function declines as we age. But, you misunderstand the situation. The symptoms one gets with a viral infection are your own immune system responding to the infection, younger people often have more severe symptoms. What happens in older people is they get complications as a result of secondary infections- e.g. pneumonia. Edit. Neil is incorrect. He's talking about immunity to diseases through previous infection. This isn't the same thing at all. Protection from chicken pox won't confer immunity to other infections. The immune response declines as we age.

Nope, immune systems develop from 'exposure' so the older you get, the tougher your immune system gets. The difference between the 2 of you, will be life-style(younger people tend to be more active, so better circulation), and diet(younger people eat more) more than immune-system.
Neil
I must protest that 46 is old! Older people catch fewer colds/minor infections because they have had exposure to more things than younger people have, but Rhianna is right - younger people when they do get sick tend to have more severe reactions to the initial infection.

Yes, it is, for obvious reasons.
