Why do some people use the ALTERNATIVE MEDICINE category to constantly defame any alternative medicine answers?

I think that this question has been asked and answered over and over. I don't need to justify my right to post here. It's the alternative medicine section, it's not specified on what end of the spectrum your comments need to be. "I really wish they would get diagnosed with an incurable illness, then let's see if those knobheads won't try homeopathy, herbs nutrition and alternative therapies but would choose to croak instead." Just thought I'd highlight that comment. Edit: @Minx: That was hurtful. I'm a person with feelings, just the same as you. I hope that your mean-spirited words DON'T come back on you tenfold. The pain has to stop somewhere.

they are mostly deluded brainwashed members of the cult of scientism who believe they are smarter than the intelligence that exists already within the body. they can't see that most of what their cult tries to impose on the incredibly complex and marvellously designed body to try to "fix" it are usually crude, barbaric, and stupid blunderings by a far inferior "educated" mind.

People come here for medical advice. Alternative medicine is known not to work. The ethical thing is to tell this this. If we don't, they will be scammed and potentially not seek real treatment.

Because people come here seeking health advice, NOT knowing what alternative medicine really is. Many have serious health conditions and they get advised horrendous bullshit from people with NO medical training and an ideological anti conventional medicine belief system. Bleach cures cancer. Water and sugar pills cures epilepsy or pertussis in two days. Cranberry cures UTI. Cosmic healing energies cures immune system disorders. Dangerous imported herbs cures prostatitis. Upper neck manipulation cures EVERYTHING. Wheatgrass is nutritious. Germ theory is nonsense and magic subluxations in the spine are the real cause of disease. Ignore your family doctor, he's on the Big Pharma payroll and only wants to suppress your symptoms with toxic pharmaceuticals. A plethora of bad advice and misinformation. Someone has to interject and provide reason, ration and the truth. I frequently ask users here to provide evidence to support their outlandish claims, I RARELY get it, and if I do, it's crap. You can only be asking this question because you have not woken up to the fact the vast majority of alternative medicine is a SCAM. It preys on the sick and the vulnerable, it steals precious time, its a minefield of risk. If you look properly you will see that most alt med skeptics here do frequently provide valid answers - science based answers, not made up hooey. If you have a problem with the alt med skeptics answers, then DO YOUR RESEARCH and come up with PROPER arguments and valid EVIDENCE, instead of the usual fallacies and personal attacks, as is this question. Until you can do this you are only showing that you are unable to. In the meantime consider what we do as consumer protection. Why should alt med be exempt from critical analysis?

Alternative medicine WOULD be the appropriate place to talk about how alternative medicine DOESN'T work as well now, wouldn't it.

Yes, people come here to seek health advice. That is the very reason why it is absurd to knock safe alternative therapies that do work when conventional medicine is clearly ignoring the horrific side effects of pharmaceutical drugs and dispenses them like candy. Conventional medicine patients end up keeping the original health problem (even though the symptoms may be suppressed) and have more health problems added to the repertoire, this time caused by the very drugs that were supposed to help in first place. And what do MDs do when more complications arise? You got it, prescribe more drugs! The human body can only take so much abuse and the patient's health proceeds to decline until the time when the body can't take it any more. Pick any pharmaceutical drug you like and look for its side effects on DRUGS.COM. It may surprise you to see the number of dangerous side effects it will have, which in many cases can be lethal. Is this your definition of sound health advice? Edit: I do not think that the issue here is who can and can't contribute to the alternative medicine forum. I think I speak for the majority of people here in saying that everyone is welcome. I agree with the idea is that one should be able to bring out what is best about the approach one supports and why, rather than insulting others that have a differing point of view.

This is a big question. Why does anybody criticise anybody else? There are a few who genuinely believe they are helping. But many of the answers from those that claim that as their motivation are too derogatory or bigoted to validate that as the true motivation. Minx has a point about bullying. There are a few people who obviously fit that category. There are also those who have the NEED to be right. This is a psychological syndrome, and can be the impetus for the bullying and abuse of those who differ. Unfortunately, the bullying appears to be working. What they probably do not even realise about themselves is that bullies are usually the most fearful of people, who lash out before anyone can hurt them. It is a self-perpetuating belief and behaviour pattern. And, ultimately, dissatisfiying - it never does improve their low self-esteem, because the behaviour damages the originator far more than the receiver. EDIT - Dave - Bollocks!

don't take it personlly viva ... that's their oxygen ..... their fuel ... their sustenance..... just plain old mean bullies .. simple ..... nothing more than bullies.... they do it to feed their ennui, despair, pain, emptiness people like that disparage and bully to fill the void .... don't feed it luv.... but DO continue to do your thing and stand tall. nothing better than helping people to feel better. cheaper than drugs and it's free. the circle of life sorts it all anyway.. what you give out comes backatcya 10 fold. bless u x
