What is the remedy for severe allergies?

Does anyone have a natural remedy for allergies?

  • I am allergic to my parent's wood stove, and since I am here until after Thanksgiving I would like to find something better to take than benedryl/advil cold and sinus/etc. The allergies are pretty severe: itchy eyes, sneeze attacks and interfering with my asthma (itchy lung sensation and wheezing). Thanks in advance for any help I get :)

  • Answer:

I have had the best luck with Stinging nettles in the Liquid, (I think Gaia makes the best brand) and a neti pot, or bottle of nasal saline (from any druggist) will help too - use as directed on the bottle Nettle is a pretty decent alternative to antihistamines without the groggy factor. Dont take my word for it.... google Pubmed, then search for "urticarica dioica" - the latin name. I would post the results here, but its an internal search engine, so it wouldn't take you there anyway Good Luck

I carry a bottle of "Oil of Oregano", around in my purse....seems to cure anything that ails ya. (wild is best). A few drops, will burn your mouth and throat for a few seconds...but it's worth it. It cures allergies, and upper respiratory problems quickly and effortlessly. Edit: Tink's answer is brilliant! :))

I agree with Tink regarding stinging nettle as it is known to help with allergies: http://users.comcen.com.au/~journals/urticaprintabs2009.htm http://www.rain-tree.com/nettles.htm It can be taken as a tincture of tea. The cold tea bags can also be used externally on hives or any other allergic irritation [flea bites, stings, etc]. The supplement Quercetin with vitamin C is also something else you could consider taking. It may act at the level of the mast cells to inhibit prostaglandin D2 release from mast cells....the latter being one marker of allergic reactions: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18831918?itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum&ordinalpos=5 It may also inhibit histamine release....another marker of allergic reactions. Vitamin C combined with vitamin C may help give a synergistic effect [ http://www.ehow.co.uk/how_4848506_use-quercetin-allergies.html?cr=1 ]......and quercetin is often sold this way. Also: eat celery and green peppers if you like these. These are rich in luteolin [and peppers are also rich in quercetin]. And bee propolis or chamomile tea may also benefit you....rich in apigenin. Luteolin and apigenin are powerful antioxidants that have been shown to block the inflammatory immune response: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18817573?ordinalpos=1&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_MultiItemSupl.PMC_FreeArticle_ad&linkpos=2&log%24=pmcad6_article Allergies do trigger an inflammatory immune cascade. The herbs basil, peppermint, parsley and thyme are also rich in luteolin. The middle eastern salad Tabouleh is a great way to boost luteolin, quercetin and Vitamin C too: soaked [for a few hours] and well-drained bulghur wheat a finely chopped green or red pepper or half of both [rich in luteolin, quercetin and vit C] lots and lots of finely chopped parsley [rich in luteolin and vit C] a small amount of finely chopped spring onion [onions are rich in quercetin] a couple of chopped de-seeded tomatoes a little olive oil and lemon juice to taste and salt and pepper to taste. edit: You may benefit from taking blackseed oil for your asthma. YOu could either take this by the spoon or spread on a little toast the Saudi way. Blackseed was said to be a cure for every disease but death by Prophet Muhammad [salallahu 'alaihi wa salam]. There is currently a lot of scientific interest in blackseed. An article on treating asthma with blackseed oil: http://www.blackseedherb.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?category=health There are currently 263 refs on Pubmed for Blackseed [Nigella sativa]. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19768141?itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum&ordinalpos=6 Thymoquinone is the main active ingredient of interest [concentrated in the oil]....this has been shown to have an anti-inflammatory effect [ http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19768141?itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_RVDocSum&ordinalpos=6 ]. As with allergic rhinitis, the inflammatory immune cascade is known to play a major role in asthma. Happy Hols.... best wishes, peace and blessings..

rub mustard on your cheeks, that usually clears me up.

Butterbur is an alternative to antihistamines , and readily available from most herbalists. A salt pipe may prove effective for the asthma.
