Why the Window tab gets closed without closing the window?

My neighbors cigarette smoke constantly blows directly into my window?

  • I live in an upstairs apartment and when it gets warm I like to have my windows open. But my neighbor constantly is out side smoking, thoughout the day. I also like to keep my front door open with the screen door closed and her apartment is right next to mine. The smell from the smoke is awful, and I have a one year old. I do close the window when she is out smoking but it gets warm in my apartment because I have no Air conditioner. I can't keep opening and closing my window all day long. What should I do? Do I have any options?

    That would drive me nuts. I HATE cigarette smoke. There's probably nothing you can do about it though. You could try talking to her nicely and explain you have a small child that you don't want inhaling smoke and see if she can smoke somewhere else. I sure wish they'd make smoking illegal, it's not fair to those of us who don't want to smell horrible and die of lung cancer.

Ask if she would please smoke near a diffrent door or step away. If she wants to be nasty talk to your landlord this is a health concern since you have a child.

Try getting a big fan and placing it by the window blowing OUT... this might help!! The only other suggestion that I have is to go to the apartment manager and complain but this may cause even more problems especially if the downstairs neighbor finds out b/c she might get mad. Have you tried talking to her at all? It might be uncomfortable but if you approach it in a nice way (and not point fingers) then you may be surprised! Maybe one day when you see her outside (not smoking) you could say something like, "Do you ever smell smoke when you have your windows open? I have been and my baby has been coughing a lot.. I was just wondering if you had smelled it too?" That way you arent placing blame on her but it might make her realize what she is doing and perhaps she will find a differant place to "light up." Just a thought!! Its a tough situation! Good luck!

place a box fan in your window and let it blow the smoke away, it will also suck the heat out of your apt.

I have a suggestion .. run a garden hose from your sink to the window and when your neighbor lights up next time, give her a little shower.

Get over yourself, your NOT that important. Put a fan in your window, learn to compromise, and most importantly, STOP WHINING.

u should aks 2 only smoke in 1 room of her house cuz you have 1 year old or buy a fan

How about a small fan positioned by your window to blow the air back before it gets in? I smoke (Iknow, I know!) I try (yes, really. Most of us are not goal-oriented to murder the rest of our fellow man, you know- and I am NOT defensive!) Ahem. Anyway, I was going to say, before I digressed, at least she is going outside to smoke, as opposed to asphixiating the rest of the people in her apartment, so maybe you might be able to prevail upon her to not stand (?) by your window? If you expain? Maybe? Good luck, no matter what...
