What's the most irritating thing customers say to you at work?
-
I work in a cinema and the amount of stupid annoying things customers say to me is unbelievable..a couple include them asking "can i have a drink?"...considering we sell about a million different kinds of drinks in various sizes..and "is it really sold out, haven't you just got 2 more seats?" - yeah, of course we have, we just put the 'sold out' sign up for a laugh! That and people shouting at me when i say i can't give them a large pepsi and four empty small cups, or a large popcorn and 4 empty small bags...the list goes on. I do this job because I'm at uni and need the extra cash (no disrespect to people who have that kind of job as their career) and i don't get paid enough to deal with these morons and keep a smile on my face at the same time! What inane, infuriating rubbish do you have to put up with at work?

Answer:
I know how you feel! I work in retail and to be honest, I don't get that annoyed by stupid things that people say - but do get very annoyed when people are rude! Some of the things that get on my nerves are: > When people look at me dubiously when I say I have a degree > When people mess the shop up and just chuck clothes all over the rails > When people leave clothes in the changing room and leave without telling us (it's a very small shop - there's always staff available!) > When people say "I want this in a 10". No 'please'. > When a customer walks up and says rudely "How much is this?" Look at the price tag!!!! > A guy came in with his daughter and told her to give the money to "the shop assistant... erm... shop lady" (as if it was some kind of insult! "Lady" would have done just fine!) > When people give you the Eyes of Death when they are queueing and the till crashes / you mess something up / you are refunding somebody and it takes a long time > Our shop has a very casual, friendly vibe. We always ask "How are you doing today? Having a good day?"..... then people say "Just looking, thanks." I DIDN'T ASK IF YOU WERE LOOKING! I ASKED HOW YOU ARE!!! > When customers know you are closing and stay in the store for 20 minutes. 5 minutes I don't mind; but any longer than 15 is just inconsiderate. > Finally, my major peeve....... putting the money on the counter instead of in my hand!!!! As if I don't deserve their brief touch! As if I am a robot with no brain! Very rude!! Generally I find a lot of people to be rude. For some reason, people think that if you work in a shop, you are stupid and a lesser person than they are. They forget that we work long hours, are on our feet all day, are constantly having to make conversation and be polite, have to think on our feet and deal with problems on the spot. But for all the rude customers I meet in one day, I usually meet at least one genuinely nice person. When I asked a guy today how his weekend had gone, he seemed truly suprised and pleased that I'd asked - then asked me how mine had gone. Things like that reassure me that the world isn't totally full of ignorant people - and they we should actually pity those rude fools; not the other way around! xx Emmie

No matter what anyone says, nothing annoys me too much other than the people who pee in the dressing room. Why, why, why would you do that?! There's no toilet in there! It's not a bathroom! You'd think this would be a rare occurrence, but alas...

Most irritating thing... Said in a rude, mocking, complacent way "The customer is always right!" Even though they are 100% in the wrong and trying to pull a scam.

I work in Retail and can completely relate!! I hear all kinds of stupid questions, too.....I think my favorite one is, they read the sign and then ask "Is this on sale for xx% off?" I want to say "Wow, you can read!!" It helps to talk about it and vent and laugh--out of earshot of the customers, of course!!

I used to work in retail (American Eagle) and I get assigned to help at the FRONT of the store and people would ALWAYS walk up to me "Umm, hi, yeah, can I get a fitting room?"... "Yes ma'am there should be someone back there to get you a fitting room"... Or "All sizes left, are on the table, none left in back" sign sitting on a table with t-shirts and clothes... "Do you know if you have any mediums left in this shirt?" Well first of all I'm pretty sure you're an XXL and NO! THE SIGN ******* SAYS ALL THE SIZES ARE OUT! Or, you ring up someones clothes and then after you're done ringing it up they say "Oh I acutally don't want that shirt. Or those pants.... now that I think about it, I jsut want this item." Or "That rack said this was 5% off and if I don't get my 5% off I might die! Because it's like a WHOLE ******* 10 cents!" God, I know where you're coming from, I HATE PEOPLE!

Yes I know what you mean. The publics stupidity knows no bounds. People argue with me when i tell them an item is 50 cents"it says 3 for two!". many of the customers cant do basic math.

i work in a gas station. my most irritating thing is when i ask ppl if they need anything else, and they say no. then i finish the transaction, and i'm ready to move on to the next person. THEN they decide they need lottery tickets or cigarettes or something else, after i'm done with them. really really hate that.

Chill - you work in customer relations, so you should accept stupid questions. Maybe look for a different job.

I work in a supermarket and its always where are the beans? Well there not gonna be here with the pizzas!! Or are you going to reduce that shoving stuff in my face a week before the expiration, and last night I was working and had a cold, but I could sure as hell still smell all the sweaty old men stinking of stale beer and tobacco, they said all walks of life in my interview but that was an understatement! If it wasn't for the customers I wouldn't have a job and some people do appreciate that we all work hard to keep the store tidy and the stock filled up, but others come in just to annoy you! I too am in this job for the extra cash and if it wasn't for the people I work with I would have left ages ago, luckily we have nice staff lol! I can imagine how your job must be annoying because there are so many rules that customers just don't seem to understand like the store closes at 4pm on a sunday, meaning get out, go home, not stick around til half four, you've had since 10am to get this shopping lol! Also when people put things in the wrong place or expect everything on the reduced shelf to be 10p and then its your fault its not lol they don't understand its done by percentages! At times I do love my job because it is a laugh, but when you get stupid customers come in to annoy you, I'm not laughing!
