How do I stop being obsessed with clothes?
-
I am obessed with clothes. I look at someone's clothes and then want more. Whenever I go to the mall, I always want to buy so many clothes, it is crazy. My room is filled with clothes. My closet is filled. There are containers filled with them but I do not like all of them. I can not even walk in my room because there are clothes all over the floor and on my bed and next to my bed and in containers in my room. I do not want to get rid of any that I do not like because they fit me. I mean none of my clothes are ugly, except for my pj's because no one sees them. I do not have all name brand clothes but I constantly want more, especially name brand clothes but they are too much money. Like right now I really want a new bathing suit to match a plaid top I got from Target. I am a minskirt bathing suit that would match it but I still want more. I also get jealous when someone has a clothing item that I do not have, especially a name-brand clothing item. I have an outfit for everyday of the year but still am not content. What can I do to overcome my obsession with shopping for clothes?

Answer:
Your obsession with clothing is signifying that you have an issue with something and it's manifested itself in this way. Maybe you've had a bad experience or you're living through something that you dislike, you should see a psychologist for professional help, you'll benefit in the long run as you'll not be obsessed with clothing and you'll save money, you'll feel free. - Pepper.

Expand your perception. Go visit a children's cancer ward or watch a documentary on the universe, maybe you'll realize just how little things like clothes matter. Then again, maybe not. The above comment is good advice, I just wanted to imply that your obsession with clothes was self-indulgent.

It will end when your credit is ruined. If you don't want that to happen, be proactive. Organize your clothes better so you can actually wear the pieces that you like and won't be as apt to buy more. Return any thing with a tag still on it. If you don't wear pieces you should get rid of them, if not, its just hoarding and someone could benefit from them. I can relate to you, I was moving and had to deal with my excess, it sucked. What did I need 300+ shirts for? I still have a ton of stuff, but financial problems did help in a way I guess, I don't buy clothes anymore because I don't need them and can't afford as many as I used to. You should approximate what you have spent on all of your clothing in total through the years and realize that you could have done a lot more with that money. We had an "intervention" with my sister and her DVD addiction and added up the approx. cost, it was over $15,000 in the last 3 years. When you buy little by little you don't realize the insane amount of $ you can spend on things. Thats a partial down payment on a house or a great vacation or 400 DVDs you don't really watch that much because you work full time, or 300 outfits you don't even wear, so don't really enjoy. Put things in perspective, it helps.

channel ur energy elsewhere. such as jogging, writing, volunteering at a shelter where you may consider donating some of your clothes. and perhaps make it a monthly, yearly thing to shop for others rather than yourself.

Join a group for OCB!!! That is crazy!!! I can't stand for clothing--anything, really--to be in such a disarray, that I can't see what is there!!! Hang everything up that you like--at least match & put together some outfits--and give the rest away, return it to the store, pack away what you really want to keep (what looks good on you & fits your style) or what you don't have room for in your closet, dresser or chest-of-drawers!!!
