When a person shakes your hand then scratches your palm what does it mean?

People shake hands in different ways. Why? What do they all mean?

  • There is the firm grasp, extremely firm grasp, fisherman, wet noodle, wet palm, hand jive slaps, knuckles, high five, and then there are the secret organizational hand shakes. Some people use the left hand (very awkward by the way), those who grab your hand in both of theirs and those who have your right hand in theirs and are holding your right arm in their left hand (to me a very aggressive and suspicious move).

  • Answer:

There are various reasons. You can show dominance over someone by putting both your hands around one of theirs, more so if you grab elbow with left hand. It shows more comfort/friendliness to hug with other hand. If you are being all smooth grab a ladies finger and twist her hand up above yours. Otherwise, the "stronger" your handshake the more friendly/honest you are.

I always shake hands with a firm grip and I look at the person straight in the eye, but I am a nice person. I think it is extremely rude when a person gives a very limp handshake. I hate that because it shows the person is being rude and doesn't want to touch you. A handshake shows character. also, I hate the wet sweaty palm limp handshake. Usually when I get those, I go to the bathroom and wash my hands.

It's mostly about personal expression. You can tell a lot about someone by their handshake. Strong handshakes usually indicate confidence, while limp handshakes indicate the opposite.

People have different ways of doing things. Their own style and habits. Gives them their character. Most likely the mean the same thing... or something similar. (If you feel that a certain way suspicious and aggressive then maybe you should speak up a little.)

I myself prefer to just body slam my friend. (It means I have a huge < 0 < |<)

Handshaking is an old tradition, to see if the other person has a knife or weapon. We shake hands to show friendship.
