Do you ask people not close to you very personal questions OR do you wait for them to volunteer information?

If I want to know personal things about people, I talk to my close friends and family. Sometimes it can be nice to know things about people, but if you don't know them very well its best to wait until you know them better and have a long conversation or something. Asking people personal questions can be very awkward and rude, especially if you do it in front of other people.

I would never ask an acquaintance personal questions and very few friends. If they want me to know about a private matter, they'll tell me.

It is considered impolite to ask personal questions from a person who is not close to you. If they are comfortable, they will volunteer information themselves and that is a mark indicating that they have found you trustworthy. By all means wait until you have won their confidence enough for them to volunteer information.

People just seem to want to voluteer all sorts of information to me..don't know what it is. I, on the other hand, wouldn't ask them directly unless we had friends in common and then, very diplomatically.

I ask them the personal questions I would not mind answering myself. I believe that shows a personal interest in them, without intruding - and find it always leads to friendly relationships.
