How to deal with difficult customers?

How do you deal with annoying customers?

  • I run my own business. Sometimes we have customers who ask for a lower price almost every single day. They are whining whining and whining to setup their own price for a product. And My prices are already lower than the market. Almost 10% lower than any other shop. How do you deal with these customers?

  • Answer:

Just tell them how much it costs to run the shop and that you absolutely cannot lower the price. Be nice about it though, because they still are the source where your business' money comes from.

The whining ones can be the worst. You might try rewording your answer on the price. Since you say you are 10% lower than any other shop, simply put it to them that way. And you have a solid product. The 10% lower is your margin of profit, your giving that to them to have referrals and repeat business. There is a no lower or you can't buy replacement products. Then explain why you are the best, etc. Or do it just the opposite, sell the product then give the explanation. It worked for me alot. However there are people you will not be able to get to stop whining they will either buy or you just have to let them walk. Stressing only makes them think your hiding a markdown. Been in sales for large $ products alot of years, you have to learn when there is chance and when to let it go. You have to know your time means money too. Good Luck :)

Explain to them that you are trying your best to give your customers the best deals, but you can't for your business sake, keep the prices so low that it doesn't make sense for you. Some people honestly don't understand how business' choose their prices, so they might just be asking purely from ignorance (I mean ignorance in the nicest way). Or they are just being douchelords, and if that's the case kill em' with kindness!

Try to tell them that you're already giving your best service and price to the products that you sell and it would be inappropriate to lower it again. Or ask them to find another better deal if they disagree.

The customer is not always right. Just Politely stand your ground.

There was a sign in at the local farm market "If you don't like the prices don't complain about them just leave." Don't give into their demands because there are some customers that just refuse to be satisfied no matter how much you go out of your way for them. When they whine tell them "that is the price, (ma'am or sir) thank you for coming in and have a good day"
