Should i call and see if i got the job?
-
i'm a student who has been looking for a job w/no luck (and dont say its the recession bc i was trying before the recession). after applying jst about everywhere i applied to Guess bc a friend of mine works there. I dropped off my resume and they never called me back to fill out an application or interview. This took about a week and then i asked my friend, and he said to call "Rick" the hiring manager the next day. So I called Rick on Monday morning like my friend said and Rick said I should come to the store because they were having an open house w/managers from other Guess stores. So I did and I met 2 other managers who rlly seemed to like me. I talked to Rick and mentioned my friends name and how he told me to apply. He asked me several questions and seemed to like what I said. He gave me the application to fill out and I had very open availability. Rick reviewed the app and then said that I could go upstairs and take a phone test. I think I might've screwed up the phone test bc i answered everything right except that i said that if i was the manager of a store and an employee stole less than $5 or $10 worth of merch i wouldnt fire them (all answers had to be yes or no). then Rick said that he would check my references and it usually takes about a day to get results of the phone test so he could call me the next day (Tuesday). I still haven't gotten a call, and idk if I should call and ask. i've never worked in retail, but i have had several temp jobs in customer service and i rlly tried to play that up during the interview, and my friend said that retail exp doesn't matter if i dress well and present myself properly during the interview. plus, Rick said that my friend is consistently one of their best sellers and it must mean something if hes willing to put his name out there for me.... so why haven't i gotten a call back??? i need to plan other interviews and to attend other open houses but i am unable to make a committment to attend another interview while my status at Guess is up in the air. at the same time, my friend said that although i might have answered that one question incorrectly (i shoudlve said that i would fire the person, no matter how much they stole) that he thinks i got the job and i jst havent gotten a call back because mondays are always busy and it was really nice summery weather on monday and yesterday. at the given the situation should i call back Guess and ask? or should i give them another day so i avoid looking pushy?

Answer:
yes you should call! you should also do other interviews and applications. attending an interview is not the same as getting the job. You are not committing to anything by attending other interviews you are broadening your horizons by looking beyond Guess.
