How To Write A Letter?

How do I write a thank-you letter for someones portfolio?

  • Recently I hosted a benefit dinner and we had someone volunteer to draw portraits. They are an art student at the local college. I want to write a very specific type of thank-you letter. I know how to write a generalized thank-you letter but I wanted to write one more appropriate for a portfolio. Basically showing that I am vouching for her artistic abilities and work ethic. Where can I go? I tried typing in "How do I write a thank-you letter for someones portfolio" in google and it turned up nothing useful.

  • Answer:

In terms of her artistic abilities, most people viewing her portfolio are going to be able to see those. The perspective you have to offer is different than that. I would state in the letter - what your expectations of her were, and how specifically she exceeded those expectations - what some of the comments you heard from the attendees about her work - how having her present enhanced the event as a whole - what elements of her personality you observed that worked well at your event, and how she interacted with the attendees as their portraits were drawn (was she fun and personable, etc) It is nice if you're able to include your email address or phone number, along with an invitation to contact you for any further questions. A good professional reference is a wonderful thing to have, especially for a student.
