What is the going rate for babysitters?

  • Our neighbor had two 15-year-old girls watch 10 kids between the ages of 5-11 for 6 hours on New Years Eve. She paid them each $100 to keep them entertained. Is this too much?

    It depends on what part of the country you're from, to tell you the truth. In areas where things cost more, babysitters are paid more. I was paid $8/hr to watch only 2 kids, so for them to watch that many children (especially in that age range), it sounds perfectly fair. Also, you said it was New Years Eve, holidays cost extra, it's all about supply and demand! :)

well usual policy: holidays/special occasions (like new years) + 30 bucks 5 $ per hour per kid. that might`ve been a little high, but considering the kids age and that it was a REALLY big holiday, makes sense. also another factor is where you live. usually richer neighborhoods pay more.

I think she should have paid them more. 10 kids is a lot. She should have given them $5/hour PER KID. 10 kids = $50/hour $50 x 6 hours = $300 $300 / 2 girls = $150 She should have given EACH girl at least $50 more. They earned it. If she didn't want to fork out all that cash, she should have asked the other children's parents for some sort of contribution. (I'm assuming not all 10 kids are hers.)
