Fast food & Resaurant...Bad service...what do you do?
-
I hate bad customer service. Being in the food industry for 5+ years. I pride myself in doing a good job & acknowledging when I make a mistake. I always go out of my way to make up for the nishap. Where is has the quality of service gone? Bad wait staff...slow restaurants...disgusting food...dont even mention fast food restaurants... Short of never eating out again...what would be the best way to bring these issues up to management?

Answer:
I have worked both sides of the coin. I was in food service as a "grunt" and I was also in management. As a manager you want to hear what's going on from a customer's standpoint because you might not always see what is happening. Good or bad you should always tell a manager about your experience. Don't expect gimmies or freebees everytime you voice your comment however. Try to resolve your issues with the local managers and not go to corporate office (unless your problem was with a manager). Just my two cents.

Tell managment about food quality. They may not know. Bad Wait staff? Tell managment. Do tell when you have a bad experience, do so in a quiet polite way. They will be more accepting and will be very willing to wipe the bill or offer a freebee. Going to upper managment does nothing. They look at it as you have already spoke to the manager and didn't get your way so now you are whining to them. Even a waitress/waiter can be approached if you do it nicely. When they come with the bill, have your money ready along with a reasonable tip. Let them see the tip and say for instance "Bad day huh?" You'll be surprized by the improvement in their attitude when someone understands. If they still act offensive pick up the tip and put it back in your pocket. Much better than leaving 2cents and you get to see the face too.

Like the doctors proverb says, "Doctors make the worst patients"!!! I'm that way too with financial companies... Ok, I'll agree with you on the Fast Food. My friend was miffed bad when she went into a fast food place and the order taker could not understand english...my friend proceeded to ask for a manager...the manager could not speak english...then she wrote a dirty letter to the owner...but found out he had problems speaking english too. Concequently, we can never visit any Burgar Kings again...I think she's over reacting a bit. Turns out that her miffiness has kept me from fast food which is good for my body and diet, so I'm thankful she had that bad service. I'm surprise you yourself do not have a great answer to share with us since you're in the business...My other guess is to write the Chain of the resterant, and get groups involved <church, bowling team, boy/girl scott parents, ect>. You could write a shell leter and pass it to these groups to send to the resturant.

If it is a franchise, write to the main office and describe your experience. Get names and dates and as many details as you can. Chances are service suffers when supervisors are either absent or not respected. Most of these places are staffed by teens. Teens are not the most diligent or forgiving. If you complain on the spot and send your food back, well, you may not want to put it in your mouth.

It’s a fast food restaurant, AKA cheap restaurant, if you do not like it, just leave it. it is unfortunate, but true!

I track the companies Website and email them when I have a really bad (or really good) experience in one of their restaurants. Don't know if it makes a difference, but it makes me feel a bit better to know I tried.

Do NOT give the manager's car a flat tire.

Complain to the manager, be specific and fair. If you don't feel that you have resolution there, contact the company's corporate headquarters to complain. Include as many details as possible.

I have worked in fast food before also, and I to prided myself on the work I did. And now that I have quit the service there sucks (not just because I'm gone but because others have quite too.). I would talk to the managers about the issues flat out, and if they don't change don't give them your service.

don't leave a tip and don't go back to that place
