Do grad schools look down upon transferring schools?

Finding jobs and grad schools?

  • My older sister already has two great part-time jobs and she gets paid quite a bundle. However, I just graduated with a Master's degree and I am currently looking for a job. I am broke. Whenever I apply for a job and my sister finds out, she will apply for the same job, sometimes turning in her application within minutes of me. She wasn't trying to get another job while I was in school, but now she keeps applying for the same jobs. If I don't tell her which ones I'm applying for, she will snoop, eavesdrop, or whatever until she does find out. She is also doing this with grad school applications. She applies to the same grad schools that I'm applying to within minutes of my application. Normally, this wouldn't be a problem. However, we look a lot alike, have the same address, our cell phone numbers are just a few digits apart, etc. We sound a lot alike over the phone also. I think that this is confusing potential employers because they probably think that we are the same person. In addition, my older sister has not graduated from college yet while I have a Master's degree. If the employers are becoming confused, they might think that we are one unqualified person who is constantly nagging them for a position, when we are two different people who look a lot alike. Also, as far as grad schools, I'm applying to Ph.D. programs while my older sister is applying to Master's level programs at the same schools that I select. I have done very well as far as grades while my sister did not care about grades because she had no intent to go to grad school (until she found out that I was going). Because of this, when we turn in applications, they often think that it is the same person applying two times. They also become confused and think that I'm the one with the "bad grades" because we look so much alike at interviews. This is really hurting me, but I think that my sister is enjoying it and thinks that this is a game. Meanwhile, I am remaining unemployed because the interviewers think that I am one person who is constantly annoying them rather than two people who look alike. How do I end this? It is quite annoying!

  • Answer:

Talk to your sister about that, i think sitting down and talking works best... tell her that ur in need of a job, i bet she'll understand... if not, try to keep your applications as secret as possible, dont let anyone know, how about changing ur phone number.. it might work i dont think its much of a problem, it can be solved by thinking, planning and talking... anyways, good luck.. i hope i've helped :)
