What were the beliefs of the Democratic-Republicans?

Why can't more people respect the beliefs of others.?

  • This is something that has bothered me a long time. Most people are so unwilling to respect beliefs that are not their own. I am a Christian, of sorts, although I have adopted other beliefs into my own aswell, and one thing I think is vital to making this world a better place, is that people respect the beliefs of others. I'm not saying you have to agree with them, but why fight about it? What makes your beliefs better, other than the fact that you say it is? If you're a Christian, a pagan, a jew, an athiest or a muslim, I still respect your beliefs. Why can't others do this? Why must they target others for not conforming to the way they think things should be? I'm personally sick of people attacking people for their religious and moral beliefs, and the only belief I'm intolerant of is one that many religious have: "I'm right, you're wrong, if you disagree, you go to hell". It's stupid, and it goes against everything most good people believe in, regardless of religion. Thoughts?

  • Answer:

Many religions, while on one hand speaking about peace and love, on the other hand often speak very poorly about non believers. For example, in the Christian bible, Psalms chap 14 says atheists are foolish and no good. Somewhere else it says witches and wizards should be killed. In the New Testament it says the only way is through the lord. When you believe god is on your side saying you are right and the entire basis of human morality is your religion, how do you respect other beliefs?

i feel that many, once having accepted a religion, have an urge to spread the gospel. However they get a little too enthusiastic and they start to try and force others into taking up their religion as well. I mean, who would want to live with devil worshiping human sacrificing cannibals as next door neighbors. Even though people fight on religious affairs, they are just fighting for what they believe in. There are countries that are made up of many different religions and still live in harmony eg. Switzerland and Singapore.

People are scared of what they don't know and go towards only what they've learned in their lives..if they follow one path and one path only they will be scared to look at anything else..

I agree so much. Who are we to say who is right and who is wrong. I guess people need to be liberal to other people's ideas. I believe in our constitution and I wish people would look at it more often. I believe if we can talk without violence this world would be different.

The trouble is, if you feel that your beliefs constitute the one and only one true way to find God, you are compelled to share it with others. If you can accept so many differing and clashing beliefs, then you can't really be believing anything at all right? For instance, in Hindus believe in many Gods while Christians believe in only one God. If you are a true follower of Christ, there is no way you will accept a Hindu's view. This doesn't mean as a Christian you hate other people. Christians are called to be peacemakers and to love all people. And in love, they are compelled to share the joy and truth about their God.

The problem is where the beliefs conflict and one uses them to force the other. I heard Carl Rove on PBS say he didn't care if people heard how he got their votes. No one he was after would be watching this, or anytihing on PBS. Why worry about Catholic votes when there were so many evangelicos. You don't have to be christian, just say it and they will never follow up. Also, when the Pilgrims and Puritans come over for freedom of religion and freedom of culture, they denied everything but their way. The Quakers had to move to Pennsylvania and Roger Started Rhode Island so people could have freedom of religion. I taking seriously that there is mild forms of insanity, brain functioning problems and it show up as a religious belief. I understand the depression medication helps fanaticism as well. It does take brain power to consider another point of view and compare it. It is easy to just follow your feelings or what was taught you.

Why should I respect the beliefs of others? If I am convinced in my religion, there is no need for me to feel another's religion is as right as mine. I certainly don't expect someone of another faith to pat me on the back, rub my shoulders, and tell me how happy he is to know that our religions tell us totally different things, and we can both be right. This tolerance crap is for cowards. I don't need someone to tolerate or respect my religion, race, gender, favorite color, or the way I tie my shoes, and I'm not going to tell someone else he's right just for the cause of diverse tolerance.

I respect all beliefs no matter how dumb they are.

I feel that this is a major shortcoming of the Muslim religion. I have commented about this in a previous posting. I believe in total tolerance of other people's beliefs and I find the Muslim religion to be of the least tolerance and the Muslim religion is the biggest cause of the violence and wars in the world right now, in my opinion.
