What rr sum scams in existance in this world?

Atheists, if possible, can you sum up your view of our world?

  • Like, when you think about nature and science, if you respect that, to what do you atribute the structured function of our world? and i dont mean humans really, but more the phenomenons found in nature? Is it just that you simply dont feel the need to pinpoint who or what is responsible for the "planning" so to speak? **and im not saying that you have to give responsibility to anything, just wondering a little bit of what is behind individuals who are atheist.

  • Answer:

I think that where I, as an atheist, differ from a believer is in our definition of "structure." Someone who believes in god, especially proponents of intelligent design, tend to see the world as a little more orderly than I do. They always point to the mammalian eye as an example of a structure that is so complex as to require a designer. I disagree. If we look at what early life likely was, it would make sense that they would evolve "organs" to know when it was day and when it was night. Certain organisms would clearly benefit from feeding when the sun was out. They evolved photosensitive cells that allowed them to ascertain what time of day it was, very primitively. Eventually, it became more advantageous to be able to more clearly resolve their prey. Over millions and millions of years, gradually the eye as we know it evolved. This scenario hardly reeks of structure and organization. It's a series of haphazard steps brought about by the advantage of being able to see. Forgive me for rambling, but I'm totally exhausted. The world is not orderly. Shards of ceramic do not leap from the floor and form teacups. Teacups fall from shelves and shatter. Everything moves towards disorganization. Chaos seems to be the natural state of things. Our brief foray into intelligence causes us to want things to be differently, but they are not. Because the universe is not orderly, because things just seem to happen, I don't see that there has to be a god. It is unbelievably evident to me that god was invented by men to explain things that seemed unexplainable. Now we have ways to explain many of these things. I know I'm not doing a very good job of explaining myself, but check out some of my other posts for more information as to how I view things.

ok, well, i wouldnt really call myself an athiest, but my views on god are different from most people. i think everything has a logical, scientific explanation. this includes phenomenons of nature. but the human race is young, and we are still learning. so far, we are unable to explain it yet, but as science and research progesses, we can discover reasons for everything

I basically hold to the philosophy of naturalism. Naturalism is simply the understanding that there exists a single, natural, physical world or universe in which we are completely included. There are not two different worlds, the supernatural and natural. Since we are completely included in the natural world, there’s nothing supernatural about us. For instance, we don’t have immaterial souls that survive after death. We are fully physical, material creatures, and everything we are and do can be understood without supposing that we have souls, spirits, or any other sort of immaterial supernatural stuff inside us. Your thoughts, experiences, feelings, decisions, and behavior are all things your brain and body does. How they do all this is of course a very complicated story that’s still being discovered by science, but naturalism says there’s nothing non-physical involved. That the material world has produced creatures that are conscious, can reason, feel emotions, and ask questions is a pretty amazing fact. The “merely” physical isn’t so mere after all. Naturalism re-enchants the physical world. If you would like more info, go to naturalism.org. They have tons of well written articles.

The answer to this is hard to accept, but here it is: Things are the way they are because that's the way they are. I'll explain. At any stage of the evolution of the universe, some person or object could look around and say "why am I here?". And the answer they would come up with is probably that a higher power put them there, when in fact they are just the result of millions of consequential changes and mutations. As science progresses, it continually explains things that only belief in god could explain before. It stands to logic that eventually science will explain all. If this is all a bit confusing, I'll give a specific example of a phenomenon found in nature: a sunset. Humans see a sunset and think "It's so pretty only a higher power could have made this". Wrong. The sun setting and the colors are direct results of the laws of physics. The planets revolve around each other and the light is diffracted through gases. Moreover, it makes us feel calm and at peace because it signifies the end of the day and we should go to sleep in a safe place, not wander around at night in the dark. This isn't because god wants us to be safe, it's because all the people who didn't feel this way died a long time ago because they were wandering around in the dark and got hurt. That's a very primitive example. But hopefully you see what I'm getting at.
