Multiple choice: What is your biggest pet peeve to answers given in the Religion & Spirituality forum?
-
Pick one of the following, please: A) Giving shallow, ignorant, unlearned answers. B) Giving feel-good, politically correct answers. C) Giving mean-spirited, hateful answers. D) All of the above.
-
Answer:
I guess I have to go with "D", although shallow answers are often quite humorous, and if that's where a person is, then that's fine - Ignorance is curable - Chronic meanness, spite, and hardness of heart are what bug me the most.

C I would not be able to judge if someone was answering something a particular way just to be politically correct or if that just happens to be what they believe. And shallow or ignorant answers I can tolerate. We all are on a different level of learning. But meanness and hatred - that is no good!

I'd have to say A. It's fine for people to have their own opinions and beliefs but it's very ignorant when people constantly want to categorize all members of a religion as being the same. Also, I don't like it when people will say someone else is wrong or stupid for the way they believe or worship when nine times out of ten they don't even understand the type of relationship the person has with God (or whoever it is that they worship). Nor do they correctly interpret scriptures. I've seen far too many scriptures taken out of context to suit whatever someone thought it should mean.

"A" Shallow answers are the worst, the other ones at least, express feelings and thoughts.

None. Oh, I might very strongly express information, but I WANT everyone to express their ideas and opinions, whether I agree or not. I'm a U.S. citizen, believe in free speech, and I don't think that being peeved because of someone's answer expresses that ethic very well. At the same time, anything expressed by the peeved party (?) is also free speech. Keep it up, good question! A little metacognition never hurts anyone.

A because people on this forum are usually very rooted in their beliefs and ignorant of others so they answer negatively or without knowledge of the true answer when you ask about other religions claming they are "wrong" and "no one should care".

A. it would defiantly have to be A people that raze there hands in the air and say that you just need faith are an insult to those of us that know G-d exists and understand it though logic.

a. There's a lot of mispellings in the R&S forum. Plus, they often seem defensive. I like the Food forum because it's the opposite. A sense of joy there that I guess religion cannot provide.
