Why do atheist's celebrate christmas?
-
The point of Christ-Mas is to celebrate the Birth of Jesus christ, Somone that atheist's bassicly want nothing to with... But they celebrate Christmas and give presents? (Some of them do) So why does anyone whos not christian, Celebrate the birth of Jesus? I mean sure you can say "Christmas Evolved" But it didn't, I mean your celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. Giving presents, Is because the 3 wise men gave presents to Jesus when he was born... Its like, Im not Jewish, So i dont celebrate Jewish holidays. Canadians dont celebrate July 4th in canada, So why do atheists and non-christians celebrate Christmas?

Ok look, it originated as a pagan holiday, Christians CHANGED it's name. So if that is okay for you to do, then I will just call it Agnosticmas and it will be okay.

I'll buy everyone a round of drinks! Christmas started as a PAGAN holiday. I celebrate it because it is a nationally recognized secular holiday. I get a day off work. Have a Blessed YULE. EDIT: yes, you're right, the word "christmas" does mean Christ - mas, and it is a christian word. But you have to understand the history of how the celebration of Christmas came to be. Maybe this will help you: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christmas If you read, you will notice that Christmas was recognized by the church because people were celebrating the Winter Solstice, and they sort of decided to use that celebration that was already going on as an opportunity to celebrate the birth of Christ. The point is that Christmas is actually just based on the Paganistic celebrations of the winter solstice, Yule, etc.
