8 Year Old Son Doesn't Belieive The Bible Because Of Santa?

  • Fellow Christians, My 8 year old son found out Santa is fake from a classmate. He cried for a bit but he eventually came to terms with it...but now, when we're in church, and he hears Bible stories, he doesn't beleive in it either. I'm trying to convince him that flying sleds are fake, but talking snakes are real. Reindeer with magical glowing noses are fake, but people splitting seas with their hands are real. A big jolly guy jumping through chimneys all around the world in one night is fake, but another guy feeding a huge group of people with two fish is real. A 6 foot rabbit jumping around our living room leaving candy is fake, but magical angels with horns flying in from the clouds is real. A 6 inch fairy that spinkles glitter under his pillow leaving cash is fake, but another guy shoving 2 of every earthly creature on a boat while an ocean ate the whole earth, is real. It's confusing him. Why can't he separate the logical sensible Bible stuff from the silly myths?

    Good luck with that. Perhaps Kirk Cameron could tear himself away from Way of the Master long enough to babysit for you a few nights a week.

the way you have worded the question makes me think you are an atheist messing with people. but supposing your answer was sincere what i would say to you is it is your own fault for teaching him there was a santa in the first place.

Maybe you shouldn't lie to your children about the existence of Santa if you're planning about lying about the existence of God. Is it embarrassing that your 8 year old is more ahead of the game than you are?

Because the silly myths were taught to him. Parents should be honest with their children at all cost. They will think that if you lied about one thing that you will lie about another. Santa Claus may have been cute and all when they were very little but you have to tell them the truth eventually, and especially before they start school to hear it from someone else. I don't think it's a good idea to force a religion on him. Let him grow up the way he wants, and he can decide later. 8 is too young of an age. If you make him a devout Christian now, and he finds out a different path later, there may be problems between you if he knows you forced it on him. Also, right know he just thinks you're forcing things on him, which will make him annoyed.
