What type of house is these?

What type of house would absorb heat?

  • I'm doing this project for my Earth Science class where I have to design a house located in Nunavut, Canada (it's always cold there). I need to focus on every little detail that includes the words: Latitude, Longitude, insolation, radiation, absorption, reflection, refraction, conduction, convection, visible light, infrared rays, earth's tilt, etc. I also have to explain why I do something for the house. For example: I'd paint the house black because it would absorb heat. Right now I'm focusing on the material of the house (brick, wood, etc ?) What should the house be made of? Any other help will be highly appreciated.

  • Answer:

I would think that a wood house would keep more heat in because it is less dense. Any time you have a material with air pockets it will hold more heat. Think about a fluffy jacket and then a wind breaker with less fluff. The fluffy jacket would be warmer. You could also insulate the house with straw between layers of wood to keep heat in better.
