What causes Earth's Magnetosphere?

What causes the Earth's magnetosphere?

  • What does this have to do with an electric dynamo and if so how does an electric dynamo work? Please make this as simple as possible as most research I have done has been quite confusing! Thank you

  • Answer:

The Earth's magnetosphere is created by the convective currents in the Earth's outer core. The outer core is liquid iron. When a conductive fluid moves it creates an electrical current and a magnetic field. That conductive fluid is the electric dynamo. All of the other planets and moons that have magnetospheres also have conductive fluids in motion. (They are all electric dynamos.)
