Best universities for Geology in the UK?

• I have always been fascinated by rocks and so I decided that I wanted to study Geology. I wanted to see which were the best universities in the UK for Geology. Thank you very much.

  I'm sure you can find league tables that give you official rankings and such like. Personally, I would recommend looking at Leicester and Birmingham. Both have excellent Geology departments, as I saw them on open days. I recently graduated from Brighton, with a 2:1 BSc Hons Geology. The uni isn't rated too highly, but the course is very nice, and getting better every year. (A relatively new course, so the staff are regularly updating it to improve it). Top staff there, and plenty of field trips. So, in my greatly biased opinion, go for Brighton! On a slightly related note, if you do study geology, you'll probably find yourself working and living abroad. As it stands now, the UK graduate market for geologists is practically non existent. I may be getting lucky and getting a job on North Sea oil rigs, but this is about six months after graduating.
