What is fossil fuels?

What items, big or small, use fossil fuels?

  • Are there some specific items (other than the obvious, like a car) that we all use everyday that uses a ton of fossil fuel because so many of us use it? I'm talking about things that people would never really guess use fossil fuels. Also, I'm not looking for just a vague answer... but it doesn't have to be in depth. Just saying "cars", followed by a short explanation, would do. I can do the actual research.... Thanks!!

  • Answer:

I will rephrase your question to mean "Crude Oil" -Jet engines -Most ethanol is from fossil fuels -Jet turbines -Rockets (much the fuel components come from oil) -Plastics of most kinds come from Crude Oil -Solvents, such as Turpentine -Most lubricants - Power generators, coal or gas fired, or liquid fuel powered (such as diesel generators). -Nuclear power actually requires a lot of fossil fuel use. - Paper and Ink manufacture -Food tchnology (partially hydrogenated fats and margarines) and Teflon type coatings as examples -Detergent/soap manufacture -Cosmetics -Textiles (many are plastics) Just a few...hope this is the sort of thing you are looking for.
